...And Suddenly It All Makes Sense

Feb 16, 2005 18:53

Yeah, so today at lunch I was telling Stuart about how my Dad was acting really wierd this morning. He said good morning, asked me if I felt ok, had I eaten breakfast, inquired as to why hadn't I eaten anything, reminded me that breakfast is the most important meal of the day... etc, etc. Typical fatherly stuff. In other words, very non-characteristic of my dad. He even offered to take me to school, when he normally wouldn't even consider it. This to me was absolutely mind boggling, and I practically ran to the bus stop just to get away from his wierdness.

Today after school, I got the same basic "friendly" greeting from him as this morning, but then I pretty much hid in my room all afternoon until dinner time, avoiding him like the plague. So, we're all sitting at dinner and the phone rings. I jump up to answer it (anything to escape!) and immagine my surprise... its Sherrie. The waitress at the diner.

Sherrie: "Hi Leah! Have you talked to your Dad yet?"
Me: "Uh... about what?" (growing sense of foreboding)
Sherrie: "Oh, well ya see Caitlin has to have surgery on her knee. Apparently she hurt it more than we originally thought..."

I'm sure you can see where this is going. I could.

I'd love to say that I put my foot down on this, that I remained firm and stuck with my decision never to work in that diner again... but I would be lying. Looks like my Sunday's for the next few months are all booked up, guys. Fuuun. I know you are probably laughing at my pathetic lack of will power, but the truth is, I agreed for 2 very specific reasons. First of all, I genuinely feel sorry for Caitlin, and Sherrie works really hard so she deserves to have her one day a week off. Plus, I'm a good person (for the most part) and I can't just be selfish when other people need me. Second of all...

This is my olive branch.

friends, work, dad
