My voice is all but gone right now, from a combination of yelling at kids, allergies, and probably whatever viruses said children are carrying.
This is my last week at the summer camp site. I'll be doing the last actual week of summer camp at my permanent school site. There's a different director there, Danny, and I'm not sure if I like him. He's nice, but it's a waxy, used car salesman or schmoozy businessman type of nice. I've had to drop a class so that I can work around the after school schedule, but luckily I've got my own insurance now that doesn't require me to be a full-time student. I'm also probably picking up an extra hour a day the last week of camp. I almost went for the maximum two hours, and I might still change my mind, but the kids have not only been insane, they've brought friends. Well, one kid has, and then he brought his sister, and a whole bunch of kids that I haven't seen since the beginning of camp came back for the last week, for some reason.
Yesterday we went to the EcoStation, which was awesome on one hand, but two of the usual suspects were being uppity through the whole thing, because they didn't want to be there, but the one boy's mom forced him to go, and the other boy went along, because they're cohorts. I was a fraction of an inch from strangling them the whole time. Still, the animals are awesome. Rufus the tegu climbed into one of my girls' lap and then tried to look up her friends' skirt, and Scooter the Sengal parrot was adoreable and demanding attention, and made me sad that I wasn't working there, so I couldn't put my fingers in the cage and pet him like last time.
I guess today I'll have another talk with Danny (and pretend I can't see him mentally re-writing everything I say so it fits into his view of reality) and find out when school starts and confirm that I WILL BE IN HYPE and NOT with the younger kids, because I can only take them in small doses.
Yeah. We'll see how that goes.
