During my lunch break today I went to the L.A. Mart. For those of you that don't know it's the building in the matrix commercial where you see the car go under that bridge. That bridge connects the Mart to a 6 story parking lot. I was at the mart to pick up my mom's christmas present that I'd had on hold at this showroom a couple months. So I picked it up and went back across the bridge to the parking lot. The bridge takes you to the second floor of the lot and I parked on the fifth. I got to the elevators and saw someone inside one but they said they're going down. So I ended up waiting a few seconds with five other people (four 20 something year old women and another man). The man got off at the fourth floor while the rest of us all had to get to five. So we're going up and all of sudden the elevator starts shaking and making really loud noise. I believe all four girls screamed at that point. Then we just stopped completely. The girls nearest the door starts hitting the alarm button but all it seems to do is make an annoying buzzing noise. Then she opens the door and all I could see was the wall. Shit. One of the other girls is now on the phone with the emergency operator telling them that we're stuck and to please send someone asap. She hangs up and everyone starts talking about work with a few uncomfortable pauses. After about 10-15 minutes the girls voices all started sounded a little different...like they were in fear. They asked me if I was scared and it was like I didn't even know what to say. I didn't want to say yes but freak we're stuck at nearly the fifth floor in a damn old ass elevator. I believe my reply was I don't know or I'm not sure...something like that. I looked at my hands and they were wet full of sweat so I stuffed them in my pockets and kept the calmest face I possibly could. One of the girls then calls the operator back and they told her that someone came out and checked but they couldn't see anyone! No fucking shit we're stuck in the elevator as we explained to you the first time what the hell do you expect. So she said she'll be sending more people now. That really pissed everyone off. One of the girls called her work and told them call 911 with all the info the phone didn't have great connection though. I wanted to call Linda so bad but damn I know the words I would have used would have brought that whole place to tears. After about 30 minutes we finally started hearing things moving. I saw some relief in their faces for a second but then the elevator just let loose. We went from near floor five to floor three in like one second. The elevator made a harsh stop and the door opened up to the parking lot. Two of the girls were sitting down and I guess they were designers that worked there or something cuz they had a bunch of drawing tools with them. I grabbed a bunch of their crap and told them get the hell out. Thankfully we all made it out. I looked around for someone who was possibly helping us but I couldn't find anyone. I thanked all of them for staying calm. Didn't ask their names of anything which I regret now. I was just glad to be alive. I walked back to my car and let my heart beats per minute slowly wind down. I felt like I wanted to scream as loud as I could. After this I just want to say to all my friends that I love you guys. While I was in there I was thinking "Am I going to die here?" Just made me think about everyone important in my life. There's my experience for the day. SHIT!
