Thanks, guys. I'm looking into all your schools, and I've emailed people at Cal and Oberlin, and am looking for someone to talk to at Davis.
If you happen to know: If the co-op is student run or not. How the co-op gets along with the school. The official communication/agreements between the school and the co-op. How the co-op deals with insurance, whether they get food from small farmers, how that works out insurance wise.
-OSCA is student run. OSCA stands for Oberlin Student Cooperative Association. We have one non-student employee, an accountant because OSCA deals with 2 or 3 million dollars going through our system every year (we are non-profit) and are regularly checked out by the IRS. -Relations with the college are currently rocky because we rent the buildings from the college and the college is going to refuse to rent one of them to us after this year due to safety issues. It means we will have about 60 less spaces in OSCA. Finances and stuff have to be changed. -I have no idea about the official communications, but I guess that could be the OSCA board of directors. Each co-op (we have-I lied before- 10 co-ops) elects two board reps. The board reps decide the direction that the OSCA is going to go in. -Not sure about insurance. I know that we do get food from local farmers as well as farmers from all parts of the country.
