Email back...

So my alumni account turned on this morning. But I learned my lessons:

1. Zoho has a much better email interface than Google, and a better privacy policy.
2. I am going to buy a domain to use exclusively for this purpose so it's in my control, not someone else's....

What ended up being the problem with your alumni account, do you know? I ask because I had problems all day yesterday (some emails delayed by hours, and some still haven't arrived yet), and I think many of these are run by the same company.

Sorry to hear it.

So the GW alumni dept switched CMS providers from or to a company called Harris. My understanding is that the new CMS company turned the alumni subdomain off (wtf!) without telling anyone (wtf!) including the staff at the alumni dept (wtf!).

It took them 2 days (yes, two full days) to recover. Sounds like your problem's much less severe.

1. can you tell me more about zoho? I'm interested in being less a part of the corporations that are trying to know my whole life, but i'm also illiterate about a lot of this, and don't really have the time to change that . . .
2. that sounds like it makes a lot of sense for you.

Google's business model is to gather and use information. Most of that goes to identifying you and being able to target you in their ad network ( ... )
