ipods and mp3 players...

Jan 13, 2006 15:26

i thought i would poll my technologically oriented friends and find out their opinions.

i want an ipod.
i cannot, at the moment, or in the near future, afford an ipod.
is there another less expensive mp3 player that people would recommend?
i would kinda like to be able to store my music library on it, so it needs a sizeable amount of space.

any

how much can you afford and exactly how much space do you need?

how much i can afford- well, i guess it would depend on how badly i want it.
i guess at the moment i just want to know what other options are out there that are worth it and what they cost. if nothing'll really fit the bill for much less, i may just decide to either skip it, or save up for it...

as for space, i think i have about 7-8 gigs at the moment, although that's not my entire library. so again, i don't know exactly how much i'd need. more than 10, but less than 40. (i know, i'm less than helpful...)

Well,

So you're going to want one with at least 20GB of space if putting all of your library is what you want. There is Iriver and creative which both have 20GB players for around $240, but if you really wanted an ipod, the ipod 30GB can be found for around $280, and if you still have student status you can get educational discount from apple.

I'd just pay the extra $40 and get the ipod.

that's kinda what i figured.

and i'm not a student anymore! woo-hoo! but i work at a university, so can i still get the educational discount? hmmm, i'll have to check...

I know I got a discount for being a staff member at a University when I bought my ipod Nano. You probably get a discount for staff status.

What kind of discount? I'm looking to buy taoist_pagan a nano for his wedding present, and I know university students. I'm wondering if it's worth begging them to make the purchase for me.

It looks like I got 20 bucks off my nano. You can go to apple.com and then go to the apple store for education and look at the discounts and terms.
