Right, but otters are lame. :P
/irony. I love otters to death, actually. I had a plush one when I was a kid, and my soccer team of five years was The Otters. It being Hermione's Special Friend makes me ponder reconciling something so freaking cuddly with Hermione, who is such a weird combo of nerdy, girly, and stubborn. Cause I have a hard time believing Hermione's patronus is supposed to BE Ron, making Ron freaking cuddly. And a fan of shellfish. XD
N-E-WAYZ. There's an actual refuting theory for the Ottery St. Catchpole thing, only of course I can't remember it or where I read it. XP When I was first in the fandom, I was really, really heavy into theorizing and discussion etc etc etc. (I was on HPfGU, which I wish wasn't so, erm, tight-arsed, because it had some of the coolest ideas I've ever heard.) and loved it. I read what feels like just about every pre-OotP theory, and was still mostly into it when that book came out. I burned out sometime after, probably concurrent with drama and burn-out in general, etc. A year+ later, I'm on the edge of being interested again, at least in certain areas, but have NO time. Sob.
...cripes, what was my point? I guess I am arguing, lol, because now I'm at work and it's slow. I am a tad defensive about the subject, because it's hard to talk about it without being wanky. Also, the way you phrased it could have been directly lifted from you-know-who, which nearly knocked me outta my chair. Plus, 'PTB' is a Buffy reference for me, which makes me cringe, lol.
But the point is, because everybody's gotta wank sometime: Just because I have no questions for JKR--or any other author--besides craft questions--which I'd ask any writer--doesn't necessarily imply anything about how I feel about canon or fanon or how they're connected. It just means I'm not drawn to JKR as a person and I don't care to indulge in spoilers or tidbits she deemed not worthy of including the first time. She publishes books, I read them. I love them. I'll wait till they're over before I start asking questions, if I ever do. But some would say I'm not so smart.
And actually, to get technical. ShellyK brought us together, situationally, and lots of other things have kept us that way. If we spent all our time actually talking only about canon, phew, this would've been over years ago. No community or relationship subsists on one thing alone.
...hey wait, which King? And which Irving? Apparently vacation made me even less smart. :B Although I am indeed getting some serious A's, for the first time in my life, too. But it's accounting, something I do every day. It's like you taking a class in insurance writing. XB
