So, as I said, I headed for the tracks to watch the train go by. Upon reaching them I caught the sound of voices coming from the bushes nearby. My Scooby-Senses tingling, I crept in to investigate and found three other teenagers in zombie makeup. I don’t mind telling you that in the dim light I got the jeebies. What were the odds?
Trying to make light of the situation, I asked if this was a private party. The nearest one countered by asking me if I had a reason for putting on my makeup and coming here this night. I said I didn’t really, it just seemed like a fun thing to do. Soon two others joined us and the question was repeated. When they responded similarly, the air around us fell still.
I cleared my throat louder than was necessary. “So, I take it none of you are together?”
“No,” replied the boy who had first asked me the question. “We arrived one by one, about the same time you did.”
“Geez. This isn’t unlikely.” Added a nearby goth girl. “It’s uncanny. I mean, dressing like zombie and then lurking by the train tracks isn’t the sort of thing you do on a regular basis.”
“I do…” I muttered, feeling odd. Her words had struck chords in all of us, and every part of me was screaming that this couldn’t be coincidence.
I didn’t have time to mull over it, because soon the bushes parted and I was quickly screaming for real.
(To be continued…)
