Move in is August 26th, we're driving up to VA on the 25th so I basically have 19 days until I'm off to college. That's insane to think about. I still have to clean/pack up my room but I've taken care of a lot already. It's Tennessee's tax free so I went and got some stuff that I still needed. I got two pairs of jeans from Old Navy for like $19 each, then I went to Target and got a bunch of stuff, mostly boring bathroom and dorm stuff though I did get some new SkullCandy earbuds. And then I headed over to Staples and got a planner, a few notebooks, pencils, highlighters, and a mini stapler. It was all very successful but the weird thing was I was using all of my own money. I had two $50 debit card gift cards and then put the rest on my real debit card. I know it's silly, but I felt like a grownup~ lol.
I went to orientation a few weeks ago and got my schedule all worked out as well as obtained my student ID (which is cool to me bc I'm a nerd :3)
I'm doing this program that helps to take care of these requirements call General Education and basically there's four combo classes, I take two of them this semester and their each 7 weeks long, but 6 credits. Next semester my two classes will both be a semester long and still 6 credits. I also have a basic, western civilization history course that will probably be boring, lol.
Here's my schedule for this semester:
First 7 weeks:
Narratives of Identity - Literature / Oral Communication
M&R - 9:30 - 12:00
W - 9:30 - 12:00
Second 7 weeks:
Global Networks & Communications - Global Understanding / Information Technology
Meets at the same times
Whole semester:
History 100
M - 4:30 - 7:10
So, I'll be taking three classes (only 2 at one time for the first semester) as opposed to the normal 5 but I'll end the semester with 15 credits. The idea is to make it easier for Freshman to adjust to the college workload and also to make smart connections between the material I have to learn under the General Education requirements instead of me taking a bunch of random classes just to check stuff off.
It's kind of confusing but I understand it and I think it's a really neat idea. It'll also allow me to knock out these requirements almost all in my Freshman year and be able to focus on my major sooner, rather than in Junior year. I'm excited and I've already got some of my books ordered and on their way. Oh, get this. I'm gonna read the Communist Manifesto for that History course. Could be good, since I actually do understand Communism now (thank you Comparative Politics) and I'll probably know more than most people *nerd*. Is it weird that I'm actually excited for class? Like I know everything else will be super fun and exciting but I'm stoked to BE IN A COLLEGE CLASS. I'm sure that will change when my first paper is due, lmao.
Sooo, I know I haven't updated this much at all this summer but I'm sure I'll pick it back up when school starts. I'll post pictures of my dorm which I'm sure will be terrible but that's part of it.
I just can't say how excited/nervous I am and how much I almost don't want it to come. It's a weird feeling but it's mostly good. :)
