Broken Man

I knew it was going to hurt when the bike sailed into the concrete post, but I didn't think I would actually go over the handlebars like that. So when it was all done, I was lying on the concrete of the biking path with blood oozing from my knee, pain in my right thumb...and a dull ache in my left collarbone that was starting to get worse and worse. There was a funny bump in the bone as well, one that hadn't been there before.

Broken.

So here's me with a broken collarbone and a potentially broken thumb. Both arms pretty much out of commission. Bye bye, summer.

I have a sling for my collarbone and a cast for my thumb, and a bottle of Percocet for when I need it. Mary's been amazing, though; she's been phenomenal at doing all the stuff that I can't do right now. (Which is a lot; I have a lot of trouble even putting a shirt on, and when this bone hurts, it effing hurts

So, basically, this blows. But it could have been so much worse. I hit my head on the way down, but I was wearing a helmet. One epidural hemorrhage per lifetime is enough, thank you. It makes me think of all those idiots in New Hampshire, though, the last time I was down there, riding around on motorcycles with no helmets on. I wrecked my helmet from a fall at 20 km/hr; imagine what'll happen to those Einsteins when they fall at 120.

So it could have been a lot worse, but this, I think, is the worst combination of painful and annoying that I've ever had to deal with.
