The honest-to-god home stretch is upon me. It's less than a month until the interviews start - the Dalhousie interview could be in two weeks - and less than a week until I start my last block of medical school. (Last hunk of tuition is due in a week and a half, too, so fare thee well, seven grand, and let's hope the student loan comes through in time).
I haven't written much over Christmas. I got to visit my family, and Mary and I have been settling back into a routine now that I'm home, with a few surprises here and there which I have grown to love. The vegetarian thing continues apace - I had some meatpie and some turkey for Christmas at home, as I'd said I would, and that was it. Tonight I made cauliflower and broccoli in a homemade tomato sauce, and a few days ago I made meatless breakfast burritos with salsa and egg. I'm enjoying it, and I don't miss meat at all. I feel healthier and I am looking forward to cooking, which was something I never really used to do.
Writing is improving - started the novel, and I have a poem and an essay in the works for some contests through that honour society. I have a short story due in mid-March, too. We'll see how that goes. Tonight I got some script ideas for this year's Euphoria show, though my involvement is going to be low key. I mean it.
And apart from that, there's not much to talk about save for settling in to a comfortable routine. I did get my first interview rejection, though - Toronto said thanks, but there were many qualified applicants, et cetera, et cetera. I sent an e-mail thanking them for their consideration and if there were any hints for future applications, and they sent back an odd letter saying that I really was a good candidate and please don't get discouraged. It sounded like they thought I was whining and upset about not getting in. Don't get me wrong, I would have been stoked for Toronto, but it was actually somewhat lower on my list, primarily because Mary thought she wouldn't be happy living in Toronto. Oh well. That's five for six so far.
Seventy-two days to match day. I kind of wish it was all over.
