Rooftop parties feel like a simple luxury, and this summer they're a regular weekend activity. Last night we hung out on Stephanie's roof in Astoria during her birthday party. Last Saturday Marta and I spent the evening on
a roof in Gawunus watching Letters from Mexico. And I went to a rooftop party in Williamsburg on July 3rd. I miss my roof on the Upper West, but these new spots with views of Manhattan more than compensate for my loss.
I'm amazed at how cool the nights can be on building rooftops. Last night I put a sweater on over my dress because the wind gave me goosebumps. However come morning, I moaned melodramatically that I was dying from the heat on our sunny walk to brunch. (It was hot. I don't know the exact temperature, but read our weather advisory for tomorrow: TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE MID TO POSSIBLY UPPER 90S AWAY FROM THE BEACHES UNDER HAZY SUNSHINE DURING MONDAY AFTERNOON. SUCH TEMPERATURES WHEN COMBINED WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL ALLOW THE HEAT INDEX TO CLIMB TO BETWEEN 100 AND 104 DEGREES DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. THE HOTTEST PORTION OF THE DAY WILL BE BETWEEN 2 PM AND 6 PM)
To escape the heat Stephanie and I ducked into a multiplex near her apartment and watched A Stranger Darkly. Excellent movie. Earlier this week I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (make a pirate noise. you know you want to.), and I had a thoroughly entertaining movie experience even though the film was a bit long.
With trips to Denver and Greece approaching, I'm beginning to realize I'm in the middle of a fantastic summer.
