Oh, London.

Just yesterday I was bouncing and squeeing over the 2012 Bid videos, and now this. It boggles.

To everyone affected by these heinous events, I offer my deepest condolences and the pledge that you are not alone in this. The rest of us may not be able to erase what happened or provide much in the way of comfort, but know that we stand together and will never bow to these sick, deluded cowards.

To anyone on my flist in London or with loved ones in the city, I hope you and yours are all safe and as well as can be expected under the circumstances. *sends hugs across the ocean*

I don’t know what you hoped to accomplish with this madness, but if it was to gain sympathy for your cause you can look elsewhere.

The world is an imperfect place, and life is not always fair. You obviously feel you have been given short shrift, but randomly attacking innocent people who have no connection to whatever perceived injustice you have suffered is not the solution. And if you look around I think you will find plenty of other people who have been dealt a crappy hand and still manage to get on with it and make something positive of their lives. If you won’t do likewise, then feel free to end your own miserable existence. Just leave the rest of us out of it.

You can claim to act on behalf of a religious mandate, but any god who advocates murder and destruction is no kind of deity, and using that as an excuse does not negate the fact that you know full well the difference between wrong and right and have chosen to act against all morals.

If your so-called "cause" is to make the world a better place, you should take a good, long look at the people you killed. Because that’s what those Londoners are trying to do, too. They’re planning to improve their city, provide opportunities and inspiration for their children, promote sport and well-being, unite the worldwide community, and leave a legacy of excellence of which future generations can be proud.

So take a long, hard look at yourselves, too, if you can bear it. What have you done today to make you feel proud?

ETA: By all accounts the people of London are handling the situation beautifully, so hats off to their dignity and courage. They have shown once again why terrorism will never prevail.
