Neophobia - Fear of Newness

Final project is done, dusted and handed in - early, I might point out. Enough work was put into it that I don't really wish to dwell on the subject, however interesting it may have seemed at the time of completion. A study of 'Fear conditioning' might well be something that would distress some of our more empathic residents, though I would like to point out to those who should have worries that no practical experimentations were carried out in this area of science.

Though rather a grim subject, the branching of the original concept of 'fear' led to paranoia, which in turn descended into a brief dip into the world of phobias and it's rather amusing how the greek suffix has come to abused in modern language, detracting from its original medical use. Many common phobia names are in fact generalisms, not approved by science (Francophobia, for example), and others mere fun wrapped up in an ostentatious name.

I kept a few of my favorites as examples.

Luposlipaphobia - The fear of being pursued by timber wolves around a kitchen table while wearing socks on a newly-waxed floor

Arachibutyrophobia - Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - Fear of long words.

Pteronophobia - Fear of tickling with feathers

Zemmiphobia - Fear of the great mole rat

Anatidaephobia - Fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you

Panophobia - Fear of everything
