i am a happy geek

Oh. My God.

The Harry Potter movie was FANTASTIC.

I can't get over how good it was!

This director / writer / whoever put this whole thing together, KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

This is a high compliment from me, as a movie geek and Harry Potter geek, and someone who was disappointed (more or less) with ALL of the previous Harry Potter films.

Seriously.

My only real quibble was Emma Watson's acting (as per usual) but even that wasn't nearly as horrible as its been in the past. She was actually ok. Not good. But ok.

I had 2 other small objections, but they weren't really anything to do with the movie's quality, but rather my very high expectations of what the scenes should be based on how much I loved them in the book.

Somehow this movie even managed to be totally faithful to the book - it really captured the events both literally (as in, what was happening) and ... emotionally? I don't know how to word this; it was like it captured exactly how the corresponding scenes in the book made you feel, and captured the general feeling of rebellion at Hogwarts and the evilness of Umbridge really well. Only a few things were changed or left out, and I think they were quite justified in the context of the film; things that weren't neccessary to the plot and all that.

I found myself sniffling a bit at one random point in the film and my movie watching buddy was like "What's wrong? This bit isn't even that sad!" and My response was "I'm crying because I can't believe it's turned out so good!"

People. GO SEE IT. It's good AS A MOVIE as well as as an outlet for Harry-Potter-fan-ism.

And yes, I will be seeing it again. I saw all the other ones at least twice and disliked most of them. If it werent for the money and time issues, I'd be happy to see this one like, eighteen times. YES I LIKED IT THAT MUCH.

I'm giving it a 9 out of 10. Pretty impressive. I actually think it deserves higher, but it wasn't perfect, so it can't be 10, and I'm probably a leeeetle biased and therefore was slightly blinded to it's flaws. Also, I'm not giving half marks anymore, except in the star system =P So it's 4 and a half stars, out of 5.

Just.... Wow.

The film-geek in me is so happy, but the Harry Potter geek in me is just ecstatic.

Anyway, aside from Harry Potter, I had a pretty awesome day today in many many other aspects. Today generally just rocked. It is pretty good to be Amanda today.
