Since there has not been any update on Vinland Saga, I have found some titles and a neat television series to pass the time. Out of all the genres in manga, I seem to enjoy seinen manga the most. I probably repeated a few times before, but I'm not their intended demographic reader. Hell, it beats reading disgustingly saccharine shoujo or josei stuff where I'm experiencing plot déjà vu or annoyance to some wishy-washy characters. 7 Seeds or any manga by the same author is a exception. I'm not saying most of the manga I read are nuggets of literary gold. They do provide good entertainment when you dare not want to be intellectually challenged; in rare occasions for me, they can do both.
Drifters by Kouta Hirano, the person behind Hellsing, combines fantasy and historical fiction. (Im)famous people from different eras become drifters to fight against a menacing, super-powered "offscourings", who are also historical figures. So far, it is still a mystery as to why they catapulted into a world of elves, dwarves, anthropoid pigs, and probably other beings. Who are Murasaki and EASY? Once all the characters comes into place, the mystery may be revealed. From the art, one can tell that Hirano he took inspiration from of Lord of the Rings. This series might not be for readers who may get offended when it comes to the manga artist's blasphemous story plots and images.
My sisters are huge fans of The Hunger Games books. I find the series entertaining, but not to the point of "stanning". However, words cannot explain why I love Game of Thrones and A Song of Fire and Ice series. I finish the first season and I decided to read the books. I have to say that the ages of the character are quite younger which I understand. The thought of watching thirteen year old Dany having her first time on cable would be criminal. Nonetheless, I got to watch season two and the ending was brutal. There's stuff I like in a book or television show: world building, intrigues, action, awesome characters (that'll I love to hate/root for), and a bit of magical elements. The reason is I enjoy reading stuff like the Romance of Three Kingdoms and Warring States Period.
