Silence. And Protest Songs.

May 04, 2007 16:58

May 4th

8:00pm, two minutes of silence.

Two minutes to remember those who've lost their lives in wars all over the world.
Two minutes to honour those who've given their lives in the fight for freedom.
Two minutes to reflect upon the horrors of which the human race are capable of inflicting upon each other.
Two minutes of hoping that brutal events like genocide won't ever happen again.
Two minutes of dreaming of an ideal world at peace.

Two minutes.

Radio 2 has a Top 100 Protest Songs right now.

My personal top 10 from the list (in no particular order):

¤ Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate son
¤ Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon
¤ John Lennon - Imagine
¤ Cranberries - Zombie
¤ The Who - My generation
¤ Klein Orkest - Over de muur
¤ Pink Floyd - Another brick in the wall
¤ John Lennon - Working class hero
¤ Boudewijn de Groot - Welterusten, meneer de president
¤ Bob Dylan - The times they are a changin'

And because it is tradition, we will be watching van Kooten & de Bie's Wo ist der Bahnhof? later on. Hij mag niet wapperen, Gé!

rememberance: may 4th, music: top 100 protest songs
