As you may, or may not, have read in my previous post (
http://leethomps.livejournal.com/102473.html) about a recent issue with PayPal this is a bit of a follow up.
For the record, PayPal restored my account within about 36 hours. Yesterday, I received a package in the mail (snail) from PayPal containing an apology note and a digital photo keychain.
I still feel that PayPal misrepresents the process of account restoration. The language referring to "automatically" and so forth implies it will be instantly restored. They need to add text indicating that it needs to be reviewed by staff and will take up to 72 hours.
Ironically, the daily Steam game sale has not gone without similar incident. My Steam account got locked (also without notification and with credit card DECLINED messages) due to the tripping of some automated fraud detection system at the Steam store.
I understand that companies need to put systems in place to prevent fraud and provide security for customers. But false positives and penalizing your actual customers is a bad move. Not notifying account holders and providing misleading messages regarding the situation only causes frustration.
