I can't believe that we're about to get the last book!! It's almost 10 here, so we're leaving in a couple of minutes to go to the main party in Piccadilly Circus... whoa. But before I get the book, I would like to make some predictions. I'll LJ cut this, in case there are some spoilers in there (about the cover and whatnot).
OH MY GOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S FINALLY TODAY!! I've invested 10 years (that's half of my life) in Harry, so I hope it's not disappointing or anticlimactic. And now, without further ado, the predictions:
1) Deaths. Harry will NOT die, nor will Ginny, Ron, or Hermione. It just can't happen... I hope. I'm predicting definitely the death of Snape and Pettigrew, and at least one Weasley. Bill won't die because he is already scarred, and it would be too cruel to kill of either Fred or George without the other, so I'm predicting... Molly. I know it's horrible, and it would probably be saddest, but her greatest fear is of her family dying, and I think it would be cruel to kill off her husband or her children while she is still alive. Tear! I also think Mad Eye Moody is a goner... he's already served his purpose, and he's always out in the middle of the fray. I'm also thinking maybe Hagrid? But I thought he would die in book 5 and he didn't, so who knows. Everyone thinks Lupin will die because James and Sirius have already kicked the bucket, but then why would Tonks have been introduced? I sort of feel like she is symbolic of his future, so I'm hoping that he will live. Also, he's my favorite character, so... yeah.
2) Snape. Guys... he's good. Let's be honest here. I would be willing to bet my life on the fact that he killed Dumbledore only because Dumbledore made him. Also, although it's cliched, I think that Snape was in love with Lily, and that's why he switched sides and became a spy. However, I think he may die trying to prove himself :(
3) RAB = Regulus Black. DUH. I think that Kreacher was the one who went across the lake to destroy the horcrux with Regulus, because we know that another wizard could not have done it. Therefore, Harry as Kreacher's master will demand to know, and Kreacher will help find the locket. And obviously Mundungus must have it, because why else would JKR have written about him pilfering Grimmauld Place in the last book? Duuuh.
4) As for the other horcruxes, we have Nagini, the cup, and possibly something of Ravenclaw's. However, I do think that Harry is a horcrux, and somehow he'll have to sacrifice himself in order to bring Voldemort down. He's going to live, though! He HAS to. I just think that JKR's whole heroic journey is based off of an old formula, and the hero does NOT die at the end. He just doesn't.
5) Apparently Umbridge will be back, and I am hoping that she will get what is coming to her.
6) The trio will go to Gringott's, which is the picture on the UK children's book cover. There is also a picture of them riding a dragon... now he is either Norbert, or could he be one of the dragons talked about by Hagrid in book 1 (dragons guard the high security vaults)... hmm. I think they will be visiting Harry's vault, and maybe they'll find more than just money in there. We'll see!
7) Also, I wrote this in my last entry right after reading book 6, but I'll repeat it here. One obvious thing that occurred to me as I was reading was the possible connection between Hepzibah Smith and Zacharias Smith... If you'll remember, she was very wealthy and owned Hufflepuff's cup (which was stolen by Tom Riddle and most likely made into a Horcrux), and
Zacharias, who incidently is IN Hufflepuff, was dragged out of school by his "haughty-looking father" (633, US). To me, it seems that Zacharias is well off, which would make sense if he is in any way related to Hepzibah. Also, their names are both a bit unusual, aren't they? Not that that means anything, because most names in HP are unusual, haha. And if they are related, I have no idea what that would mean for the next book, but... yeah. Just a thought. Maybe he'll help them find hte cup? Or something?
8) Neville will be very heroic, as will Luna... and they'll both live! I just love them so much, Neville especially. I hope he does something awful to Bellatrix to avenge his parents! No dark magic for him, though, because he's too good for that.
9) Voldemort will be brought down... obviously. I don't think Harry will Avada Kedavra him though, because like Neville, Harry is too good for that. Somehow the fact that Voldemort is carrying Lily's blood protection will affect their battle, obviously. And I wonder what will happen with teh whole wand thing?
10) The epilogue. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny will all live, and H/G and R/H WILL happen. Duh. One of hte students will be a Hogwarts teacher, and I'm predicting Harry. If the DADA position was cursed ever since Voldemort applied for the job, I think it would be very fitting for Harry to take it over. He won't be an auror because he doesn't have to fight anymore, and why else would JKR have showed him being such a good teacher in book 5? I just feel like it's set up so well, that it would be a shame if she didn't do that. However, I remember at the time JKR said that one of the students would teach at Hogwarts, I thought it would be Neville (teaching herbology, obviously), so we shall see.
I know I've talked about a LOT more theories with various people, but I don't remember them all. I'm going to go now, because I'm actually going to READ THE BOOK and find out what really happens. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!! It's times like these that I am happy to be in London :) It's just so cool that everyone in the world is gearing up for a BOOK release. Yay!
I'll post my pictures of the big party in Piccadilly Circus later, and also my pictures of my friend Sonia and me at Platform 9 3/4 in King's Cross.
Happy reading, everyone!!!
