A couple of months ago I watched Babel. As it was starting, I tried to put the subtitles on, but the first few buttons I pushed to scroll to "on" didn't work so I figured I wasn't supposed to know what the other people were saying, thus making a true Babel experience. I found the movie quite good but I had to look at a couple of spoilers to understand how they all tied to each other and exactly why the Japanese girl was so sad. I will say the story that moved me the most was hers. What an amazing performance. I didn't even understand her but I knew there was a big tragedy and her being deaf in a hearing world was also an issue.
After,
jakethrash informed me that, yes, the movie came with subtitles. I'm wondering if I should see it again.
I think the subtitle thing is broken on my DVD player downstairs. I tried to turn it on again tonight with another DVD but it wouldn't turn on.
Adam Beach is a fantastic actor. He really deserves more awards and should be in more movies.
