The snow leopards spent most of the time sleeping, so enjoy the first photo of an awake one, because the rest are either sleeping or yawning shots!! I think we were lucky that all the cats weren't sleeping, considering how many hours a day cats sleep!

It's sad that we need the captive breeding programmes, but without them, many species would already be extinct (generally speaking here, not specifically felines) - in fact, even with them, we've lost some recently (white rhino I think is one of them). There have been successful reintroductions into the wild, so it can work, but yeah, in an ideal world it wouldn't be needed.
Personally, I have no problem going to a zoo, but only if I know it is well run, has active breeding programmes and does enrichment for the animals it has. After all, the zoos need income to be able to breed the animals and save them from extinction. That said, I totally understand your point of view too, as it's one my hubby shares. I haven't been to a zoo for a long time, because of his views on them.
