Flawed Female Characters? More Please!

I think there are some people on my f-list who will find this article interesting. Beware there is language of the 'f' variety: http://www.newstatesman.com/culture/2015/02/why-i-want-more-unlikeable-female-characters

I have to admit, writing a female character who is, for example, like Rodney McKay, is not something I've put much consideration into. But I like 'Bones' and think Temperance Brennan is an great character, flaws and all. I liked HG Wells in 'Warehouse 13' too. Though as a het female, I'll admit I'm more drawn to the male anti-hero (Rodney, Neal, Stark), but that doesn't mean I don't want to see more female ones too.

Though this does raise the issue of double standards. Tony Stark is a loveable rogue and his womanising is seen as a part of that. A female equivalent is in danger of being called a slut or whore.

Sidenote: I always found it odd in SGA that Keller is accused of being a slut, just because at the end of Trio she's interested in Rodney, and yet in Quarantine she was interested in Ronon. Aren't women allowed to change their minds? Explore other options? It wasn't like a relationship had been established between Ronon and her, after all. *sigh*

Anyway, it looks like there's still a long way to go.
