Sir Patrick Moore passed away today (
news here). We saw him in Derby some years ago, talking about astronomy. He made the subject interesting - engaging his audience and explaining things in a way that neither patronised or went over our heads.
The Sky at Night, the programme he's presented once a month since 1957, brought astronomy to the masses. He was eccentric, wearing a monocle and playing the xylophone with passion, and a great man of science. These icons are my small tribute to him. As usual, please credit if you take and use, a comment here would be nice, and no hotlinking, thanks.

this when looking for planet photos. Poor Pluto!
