Am I dreaming?

I feel like my life changed today. I just found out that 100% of any trans-related surgery are covered by my employer. Even traveling expenses if I need to travel.

It's like someone just handed me a blank check and said "go for it, whatever you want."

I'm speechless and ecstatic.

YEAAAHHHH, BABY!

Yes, it's a new policy. As of July 1st, UCOP negotiated that most of the UC insurance companies (all except one company that covers very few UC employees) must cover trans-related surgeries with a cap of $75000. Most of the HMOs cover 100% and the PPOs cover 80%. Healthnet covers 100%. They're following standards of care, which means I have to get a note from a therapist (which I'm not happy about, but shit, it's 100% covered!!). I have to go with an in-network provider unless there isn't anyone qualified or skilled enough to do the surgeries I want/need. Then, I can petition them to contract out to someone who is qualified. The catch is I'm limited to providers in California. Which means the guy I wanted in Texas wouldn't be covered. But I found a good guy who does the same procedure in LA. So, the first step is to talk to my primary care physician and we'll go from there, she does all the referring. I'm still recovering from the whole gall bladder incident, but I think I'll be good to go by the summer, so I'll be looking ( ... )
