I thought I might share a bit of music that is clear and dear to my heart that always seems to make me think of SanSan when I listen to them.
The order in which they are presented are constructed to follow their story with a little AU after #13.
Since this is classical music I'm going to explain a little bit as to why I chose each song since there aren't lyrics to do that for me.
1. Written On The Sky
This song as a whole just reminds me of them and serves as a prologue into their story.
I find it ever so bittersweet, delicate, and saddening that I couldn't help but think it fit them.
2. The Meadow
This song serves as an introduction to Sansa, like the book and show.
It's very dreamlike and has a taste of innocence and wonder with a little sadness tint to it. It presents a fairytale like world within it that I couldn't help but feel that Sansa would live in.
3. Embers.
The name in its self should give away of whom it represents.
For Sandor I chose this song because of its melancholy, bitter, saddening flavor and it gives off a sense of tragedy within it.
4. Monday
Monday represents their first meeting and everyday lives, hers at Winterfell and his by the prince's side, as well as Sansa's blooming crush on Joffery and Sandor watching amusingly and longingly at Sansa.
5. Fly
Fly is an analogy of Sansa leaving WInterfell as well as receiving her nickname "Little Bird."
6. Yearning
This song is from the movie Bright Star (wonderful film!) and has a little dialogue in the beginning that I find fits them as well as the song. The pov is of Sandor and of his yearning for Sansa wile at Winterfell and at Kings Landing. It's very passionate and desperate, emotions that I have no doubt he felt himself while watching after her.
"My sweet creature, when I send this round I shall be in the front parlor watching to see you show yourself in the garden. When I look back upon the ecstasies in which I have passed some days and the miseries in their turn, I wonder the more at the beauty which has keep up the spell of fervently. How horrid was the chance of slipping into the ground instead of into your arms. The difference is amazing love."
7. Broken Cords Can Sing a Little.
This is the death of Eddard Stark and Sansa's world after.
There is a bit of lyrics in the background but I think it's of an old radio broadcast. If you listen real hard you can see it fits the situation quite a bit.
8. Sunlight.
I see Sandor looking over his Little Bird when I listen to this. Of his lying on Joffery's name day, the riot, and the cleaning her blood welling on her lip. It's of love growing and preferences and nature changing for the sake of love.
9. Written In The Sand.
The Blackwater battle, their last meeting and his most open and desperate state he's shown. They’re both terrified and desperate. I can see the happening of this scene and after as Sansa wraps herself with his cloak to this very sad song,
10. Turbine Womb
In this song Sansa is left in the lion's den, realizing and thinking back. It represents her imagination taking hold and creating the kiss they shared as well as her constant comparison to her surroundings and words said to the Hound and his advice and character.
11. Nuvole Nere
A little same as before but more focusing on her everyday life as well as Sandor traveling with Arya. It's cautious, devious, and angry. One to most fit the atmosphere.
12. The Vote
Joffery is dead and Sansa comes to live at The Vale. The song represents a saddening freedom and the wonder of The Vale as well as transcending from one lie to another.
13. The Gravel Road.
As I said before this is where the AU or supposed future comes into play in where Sansa's betrothed dies and returns to Winterfell to find the burnt and crumbling ruin that was once her home. The reveal comes at 2:11. I see her walking though, reminiscing on old memories with a painful hint of sadness.
14. Returned To Me
This song, which was not originally not called by this name but a part of a 54 min opus called From The Art of Mirrors. As you can guess by the songs name, this song is if Sandor's return to Sansa. The reveal, the shock, the happiness, and sadness, as well as their final get together when the song pulls into full swing.
15. Negative Capability
Another from the Bright Star OST. The dialogue doesn’t have as much meaning as Yearning, the main focus is the song and sets as their day to day, ever after. It has an old feel to it with the harpsichord and followed with the violin and remaining orchestra. It's blissful and happy, portraying two damaged and broken people finally being able to enjoy a bit of happiness they deserve together, perhaps for the remainder of their lives.
