Howdy!

Even long weekends fly by too quickly.
My party Saturday went nicely. Of course there were a few no shows. Only one person called to let me know they weren't able to make it. Annoying lady ended up not being too bad! She brought her mother along so she was more subdued than usual. If only mom could come to everything so she wouldn't get crazy / inappropriate.

Sunday we didn't do much. Ed worked on wiring what is actually the master bedroom but is being prepared to be used as an office/den area. Before we can use it as a master bedroom Ed wants to tear down the plaster and everything but he doesn't have the time right now to get into something so time consuming. He did a little patch work and put in a new breaker with several plugs in the room that will be able to handle the computer and printer. He also ran networking cable into the room. (His intention is to have the entire house networked when he's done fixing up the rooms.

Including the bathroom. Goofiness if you ask me.) We watched the Steelers game of course. It started so badly Ed ended up napping during the second quarter. Thank goodness they pulled through in the end!

Yesterday I helped Ed get the room cleaned up and did three days of dishes I stupidly let pile up over the weekend. Since we'd been pretty much housebound all weekend we drove out to Ross Park Mall. Ed hung out with kids while I did a little shopping. Ed watched the baby while she explored the play area there and the older kids entertained themselves. We didn't bring a camera so we missed photos of Aeryn's first trips down a slide : (

The shopping I was doing wasn't for Xmas, the kids keep getting taller and they just needed new pants. Turns out Celest is now in size 10 pants simply for the length. 8's hit right on her ankle bone so I have to start phasing in new ones to replace the pants she'll be out growing soon. The hard part is she's so slender that I have to try and get mostly slim sizes.

I did find a pair at the Gap on clearance for $4.99! I couldn't turn that down! And thank goodness for the elastics built into the waistbands. Both my kids would have their pants falling off if not for them.

What's going on at work?

Because yesterday was a bank holiday and I need off Friday I'm scheduled only three days this week. Problem is they scheduled me past 3 PM. I'm not happy about that at all. I'm not going to make a stink now, but if they try to schedule me like this again I will. The reason I took this job was because I would be able to get home for the kids after school.

I've also been thinking about asking for the entire summer off (Jun, July and August). I'll be having a review with my surpervisor sometime in May and I'll broach the subject then. If they won't / can't give me off, I'll probably have to quit. Summer child care would be nearly impossible to find. The sitter I use now for Aeryn during the day has two kids of her own plus she will have two more children full time this summer. I wouldn't saddle her with seven kids all summer. She'd never be able to go anywhere!! Day care and day camps cost more per week than I would make in

a month for the two older kids. The free child-care I have access to is

my mom and Mommy Dearest. I couldn't saddle my mom (and her husband) with my kids all the time and Mommy Dearest wouldn't be able to handle the kids one whole day let alone 3 or 4 days a week for three months.

So.... either they let me take an unpaid leave of absence or I'll have to quit.

Slight change on our vacation plans. Ed remembered last night that he will be taking the second part of the CFA on the first full day of our planned vacation. Originally we were going to leave Pittsburgh Friday evening to get to the beach by Saturday morning and be able to enjoy that day. Now we'll be leaving after he finishes the exam Saturday afternoon / early evening. That means we won't get there until early Sunday morning. Oh well. We've committed to both financially and that's that.

work, weekend
