Norway post #5 (greetings from sunny Norway)

As I write this, I am watching the VG top 20 live concert on TV.  Lots of teenage girls getting rained on and singing along to a song whose lyrics include "you are like a sunset, behind a mountain, somewhere."  I don't know who the singer is, but if I was 14 years old, I'd totally dig him.

The announcer appears to be high.

The Fram Museum
Last night I got my first really good night's sleep.  We both almost missed breakfast and made it down a few minutes before 10.  We were not the last ones either.

Eric didn't need to be at the conference till later so we took the ferry over to the Bygdoy penninsula.  The ferry makes two stops, one at the Viking museum and the other at the Fram.   We got off at the Viking museum then decided we wanted to go to the Fram.  It wasn't too too rainy yet so it made for a nice walk.

The Fram museum was wonderful.  The Fram is a ship that was used several times for polar exploration, it went towards both the North and South poles.  The museum is built around the ship.  It has some great exhibits about the expeditions and the explorers.  My favorite were the reproductions of Roald Amundsen's lantern pictures from his 1911 trip to the south pole.  Being able to board and explore the ship was pretty neat too.  A fair amount of the Fram was accessible/visible.  The sleeping cabins were full of artifacts, including sealskin outfits, apothecary and surgery kits, and sextants.

A ferry ride back, some moules and frites for lunch, and Eric heads back to the conference for a while.

Pizza, TV, and candy bars
The rest of thd day was pretty uneventfull, I chilled back at the hotel, had a hot bath, and we went out to Pepe's pizza for dinner.  We had a pizza designed by an Olympic pizza champion.   It cost us $60 (a cheap dinner for Oslo) and was slightly better quality than pizza hut.

For desert, I decided to start sampling the local candy bars.  I went for the two bars that were the most difficult to figure out what they contained.  Gullbrod is chocolate covered marzipan.  Lakris is a milk chocolate bar with licorice bits in it.  Eaten while watching on TV the concert I mentioned earlier.

Even a fabulous traveller needs a slow day ;)
