Suddenly! Pain!
I had a "work related injury" today at the PAD.
I was preparing a large hot tea when all of a sudden the scalding water that we use for the tea splashed up and spilled all over my left hand and wrist. We're talking nearly boiling water.
I held it together. I didn't scream or curse like I wanted to. I didn't "cry" so much as the tears just started spilling down my face. I gave the girl her tea and I disappeared into the back. Oh god it hurt (still hurts) so badly.
Everyone was saying "Oh, you have to go to the emergency room!" and I started freaking out. Emergency room trips cost a lot of money and a lot of time! Things I certainly don't have. Well, I finally agreed to go to the Student Health Center, because while it is a work related injury, and therefor should be comped, I know how the medical business (yes, it's a business) works, and I know how you usually have to fight tooth and nail to make sure the appropriate parties pay for everything.
So I get to the Student Health Center, with my hand already bandaged up from the little treatment we gave it at work, and they tell me that no, there's an Employee Medical Center that I need to go to to receive free treatment. The fuck? I didn't even know there was an Employee Medical Center. Well it's in the fuck-middle of the GIANT Hospital complex here at OSU. Hard to find. Even harder to find the actual office located in the obscure building.
The waiting room is actually just a long skinny hallway with a sign in sheet at the beginning. I signed in and sat down to wait among other OSU employees. Overhearing, most people were there just for shots or to fill out paperwork. Someone notices that my hand is all bandaged up and that I must have a had a serious look of pain on my face and was all, "Oh? Do you have an actual injury?". L.O.L.
Well, I have first and second degree burns all over my left hand and wrist. It'll probably blister up soon, but no permanent injuries. It just hurts. A lot.
And on top of all that, there was absolutely no aloe at work that I could have put on my hand. What kind of food service establishment doesn't carry aloe?
Who wants to buy me some sympathy dinner?
