The truth of the new star trek:
Upon watching the new star trek and it's lens flare in every scene, it occurred to me, the underlying and unspoken truth about this vision of the future is that the federation was built on genocide to rival the Nazis.
Ok now hear me out, the truth is that something happened on future earth, when the federation rose to power. It did what many other oppressive fascist regimes do to cement their power in the hearts and minds of the populace. It found a minority for people to blame their problems and short comings on. It chose to wipe out all epileptics. I imagine the unfortunate future sufferers of this condition tried to hide who they were and the federation enacted a policy to weed their kind out.... by attaching shiny blinding lights to everything. No longer could the epileptics hide their world was now hostile to them....and the genocide began.
Also they changed the Romulans from basically being pretentious space jerks into angry space skin heads which I think was pretty fun.
