Guh, this was gorgeous! Gorgeously written and weighted, with each section being just enough to capture his emotions without tipping into too much grief/angst and being maudlin.

These lines especially were really lovely and moving:

She’s never been his, but he can’t give her away.

Lee’s always envied the man his easy love for Kara, now he envies him his easy grief.

He just wonders if there will ever come a point at which his father will learn how to care without comparing.

I also really loved Lee's thoughts on the cylon and also the way you alluded to the shouting to the skies on new caprica or love with shouting about his grief.

This was beautiful, Clare. I know you've said you struggle with getting things from idea to finished writing sometimes but I hope you keep writing! <3

Thank you, honey! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope it felt K/Lish enough to you. It's been giving me fits, heh, so I really appreciate the comment :)

I certainly plan to. This one has been tricky as it's not my pairing, so I've had to be so much more careful with it than usual, but the muse seems to be kicking again and I have lots of ideas, so fingers crossed, eh?

Oh, this is both beautiful and heartbreaking. As this fic being your first Kara/Lee - I think you've done a marvellous job! Your story is a nice missing/behind-the-scenes snippet of what could have actually happened in BSG canon. The writers of the show did not spend much time indulging the audience with scenes dealing with the emotional aftermath of Kara's death from Lee's POV. Your story echoes what Jamie Bamber had once said in an interview - that he felt it was inappropriate for Lee to grieve openly for Kara because it wasn't his place to do so and she was someone else's wife. It was lovely to get inside his mind and see his internal struggle/conflict and watch him grieve in silence for a woman who never belonged to him. My favourite part of your story is the bit where Lee decides not to return to his CAG position. I, too, have always felt that Lee's decision to leave military had everything to do with Kara. I'd like to think that Lee felt there was no purpose to fly in his viper without Kara at his six. Thanks for sharing this ( ... )

Oh, thank you! I'm really happy you enjoyed it. It's taken me a long time to beat into shape, so I wasn't sure it would end up being what I wanted it to be, but this comment made me smile :)

Oh, wow! This is just heart-breaking and delicate and gorgeous!

the empty space next to Kat’s serious face is too small to hold the burning brightness that was Kara Thrace

That gets you right in the chest, and I love how you've framed Lee's jealousy of Sam and his on-going sense of loss across all those weeks without her. Marvelous job! <3

This is elegiac and tender and gorgeous. So nicely written--such a quiet, sad view inside Lee's head and his love for Kara. The lines flow so smoothly together over the sharpness of his grief. Wonderful!

Oh, thank you! I really appreciate the comments on the flow of the lines - I spend far too much time on things like that, so it makes me happy when I know it worked :)
