So this is pretty much my favorite scene of all time...OF ALL TIME YO. /Kayne so please forgive me for the amount of babbling I am about to do.
I'm a shipper so my love for this scene has alot to do with both of my favorite characters having a real honest-to-gods conversation with each other. Fears, hopes, choices, destiny...whatever it is they are feeling/thinking they are TALKING about it and it makes me happy.
The thing that struck me so deep in this moment is Lee finally accepting the path that he's on. He always had that internal struggle between solider, son and man and in this moment he explains exactly who he is, where he's going and what he hopes to do. There's no outside forces pushing him in any one direction, it's Lee making his own decision and forging his own future and as always, I am in love.
I think he relates this path that he's on to destiny because its Kara he's speaking with. If anyone could understand the determination and pull of a life altering choice its her. Sometimes a choice can feel like destiny and that doesn't have to mean you give up free will, it just means in your heart and mind you know there is no other option to take. This was the role you were born to play and you accept it regardless of how hard the journey may be. I think Lee has that revelation in this episode and the only person who could have understood how he felt was Kara. This was the moment for me where everything else they had been through individually or together just didn't matter. For the first time their walls were down and all that remained was the truth and total acceptance and I think Lee needed that before he could leave the ship and start down his path of "destiny".
I agree with everything you've said, but this I love most of all:

I love the idea that making the right choice can feel like destiny. Beautifully put!
