The Piano
21. Lullaby

The piano plays Schubert's Lullaby in the background. The young woman, dressed in the nineteenth century clothes of the upper-class, waves the nurse away and bends down to pick up the crying baby girl.

The baby is well-fed and her clothes are dry, so the young mother realizes that her daughter only needs some cuddling. The mother walks towards where the man is playing the piano and sits on a rocking chair by his side.

The soothing sound of the lullaby and her mother's arms is what the baby needs to fall asleep peacefully again. The woman kisses her daughter's forehead and lifts her eyes to the man, smiling, silently thanking him for playing.

She hopes her daughter will inherit his talent.
