What's airport security like these days? Can I carry on some food? Water? A book? What can't I carry on?

That's kind of a long list ...
They still confiscate liquids going through security, but there's no secondary screening, so you can buy liquids inside. Just keep them in your carry-on. Books and laptops and such are fine (based on flying to Chicago two weeks ago).

It's something like liquids/gels/creams of less than three ounces they will let through?
