Good Morning, Mackettes,
5:20 AM and I’ve been wide awake for about two hours. Wasn’t feeling so good last night, and today I’m a little crummy too, but today is the day Dawn gives the oath and gets her Canadian citizenship. Gotta be ‘up’ for that. She’s depending on me, and just for a change, I’d like not to let her down any more than usual.
I’ve sold a couple trade paperback copies of Terminal Monday in the last week or so, which is actually progress over the ebook experience. Seems there is still resistance to going digital, despite the hype. I’m hoping that changes as I become more established. as nice as it would be to have print copies of my books, the main goal is to sell digitally, which involves far less hacking down of trees.
I’m listening to music I’m preparing to review in a few days; an album called ‘A Life Within A Day’ by Steve Hackett and Chris Squire, under the sobriquet ‘Squackett’. I’d review it now, but my head isn’t in that space yet, and I’m hoping that familiarizing myself with the album will give me a chance to wrap my head around it.
I’m hoping to get back to work on Etcetera Thesis music come Friday, when Gary shows up to reconvene recording. Not sure what I’m going to get him to work on. I’m still remixing things so I can hear what needs to be fixed. So far, the main thing is that a handful of guitar parts are going to have to be rerecorded, because I’m not a great lead guitarist, no matter how much I wish I were. Neither is Gary, but he’s ever so slightly better disciplined and likely to clean the parts up if he can wrap his head and hands around them. I’m going to have to get him to help choose a lead guitarist that likes what we do and is interested in joining us. We also need a drummer and a keyboardist. I’d prefer if at least one of these people (keyboardist or guitarist) can also play a mean bass, so I can switch instruments as needed.
I’m still waiting for my friend Mavinga to find time in his increasingly busy schedule to complete the print cover for The Bride of War. I’ve been sitting on the laid out manuscript for that for months now. I may give it one more pass just to be sure. I found an embarrassing number of mistakes in the Terminal Monday script, so Bride is likely to have them too, despite my conviction that I already spell checked the dickens out of it.
I have The Back Roads of Limbo open before me. I’ll try to d some of that as soon as I’m done this entry. Three stories must be completed so I can publish it at the end of this month. It will be the first of the Books of Limbo series to go out; a collection of fourteen short stories, some connected, others not, and some of which have never been seen in any form before, though the original idea for the Limbo books was to collect my previously-posted short stories that have never been properly collected and published. I’m hoping it will fair better than most short story collections do. It would certainly be nice just to have another book in the store.
One that subject, I have to make time to get back to work on Sterling Carcieri, while the weather is still in my favour. The Uninvited Guest is summer weather fiction; I never seem to be able to get my head into that space unless I’m experiencing summer heat conditions. I may start writing it in the early mornings, when the AC is only on in the bedroom and I’m out in the dining room sweating profusely.
I’m also reminded, thanks to a challenge on deviantArt, that I haven’t moved forward with my plans for The Art of Words and Project: Big Beautiful You. I hope to get back to that soon. Maybe in the fall.
I also also want to get back to work on the Tarot painting series designs. Dawn and I are starting to talk pretty regularly about recommencing our art careers. The prospect of selling some art is beginning to really grip us both. We’ve both seen things that have really grabbed our imaginations, particularly at the last Art Crawl. It’s the old ‘we can do that’ thing.
The song remixes of The Whole Other half that I’ve posted so far have garnered some small amount of attention. I’m particularly pleased at how well received No One In The World has been received. That one seems to have grown vestigial legs and started toddling about on its own. Still need to fix the guitar on that. I can almost hear how it ought to sound, if Gary and I can just learn to play the parts properly. I’m a little sad that Out of Time seems to have lost its sheen. No one is interested in that one any more, it seems. Ah well. Plenty more where that came from. Here It Comes Again seems to have taken off as well, though it’s not quite as successful at getting people to comment of give it props. I suspect that means they listen to part and move on. Still, it serves as a great album closer, so I’m content.
I’m probably forgetting something. Maybe I’ll remember it later and write a post for tomorrow. Thanks for reading.
Eddie.
