Aaaaaaaannnnnd... We're Back

Jun 28, 2008 00:15

Well, I didn't mention it earlier, but plans for today included going out with Dave to buy more RAM and possibly a new video card. Which we did. Then we came home and installed them. And inadvertently killed the fan on the CPU heatsink. It went from a loud blowing noise to the sound of a small prop air plane taxiing. So we went back out and bought a new heatsink. Which was almost identical to the old one. But not quite, thankfully. Because this one is absolutely silent. For the first time in over two years, I'm able to operate my computer without the sound of a hairdryer in the next room emanating from beneath my desk. It's fantastic. Dawn's ecstatic.

Now, none of that tells you why I've been away (not that you noticed). See, today, I bought more RAM. 4 GB of it, to be exact, which is just 1 GB more RAM than Windows XP is capable of running, or so I'm told. So I had to make the leap to Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. It's been a bit frustrating trying to figure out where everything is now, but they did fix a few things I thought were irritating, like the C Drive navigation in Explorer. they've streamlined it considerably. Now the problem is, I don't know where to find stuff that used to be buried 13 layers deep in C Drive. But anyway.

I'd show a screencap, but I haven't really installed enough programmes to set up my screencaps properly yet. Irfanview is in, but Adobe CS3 isn't yet. Tomorrow, I think. And I haven't yet installed anything that can show me just how shiny my new RAM and video card really are yet. Again, probably tomorrow. After we've found a new chair for Dawn, I think.

It's almost midnight, and I'm quite tired for some reason. Think I'll go find soemthing to take my meds with and call it an early night.

Hope everyone else had a fine day. Enjoy your weekend.

Lee.
