So I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but I haven’t wanted to make a definite decision until I was pretty sure I meant it.
I think I’m done writing album reviews.
It’s not that I don’t have albums I want to review. It’s not that I don’t listen to any new music worthy of reviewing. And it’s not that I don’t enjoy writing them. I’ve enjoyed writing album reviews immensely. There are still old and new albums I really want to write reviews for.
But my time has been taken up by novel writing, graphic design, illustration, music recording and local politics, and I just don’t seem to have any more time to spare for writing music reviews.
I HAD been seriously considering doing Alan Cross’s new music review site thing (well, it’s not all his, but he’s a big part of why I signed up initially), as I thought it might be nice to make a bit of money doing this thing a little more seriously. And then I couldn’t make it to the presentation, and then I got really busy, and then, quite frankly, I woke up and realized I hadn’t written a review since the big prog rock album review blowout of the last twenty-five years, in 2013. That was six months ago.
Things have obviously changed.
So that’s it, I guess. I may do the occasional review now and then, just for the heck of it, but I suspect I won’t be doing them for a while, at any rate. Time to just call it a day and save people the speculation.
Now, having said that, I’ll probably turn right around and write something new, or finish and post one of the almost-complete reviews on my laptop, just to be contrary.
We’ll see.
Lee.
