The smell of antiseptic was strong, so strong that you could almost taste it. It was kind of disgusting, but maybe it was just because he wasn’t use to be around that smell.

“She doesn’t know we are here, right?”

“No, I didn’t tell her anything”

“Thanks…” The raven tightened the grip he had in the taller’s arm that guide him though the white corridors.

Yesung was like a mystery. You couldn’t know what he was thinking and he wasn’t one who would tell what is passing through his mind to anybody. It had been only two days since he had interacted with the boy, but it was never enough. He wanted to know more about him. He wanted to know more about his wife. He wanted to know more about them.

.

.

There was a light knock on the door before they heard a low voice that let them in. The sigh he saw in front of him was something that he was glad Yesung couldn’t see.

.

.

Sparse light breaking though the blinds from the window as it decorated the floor with many light stripes. The lights were off, but it was still clear enough to see. Yesung’s mom was lying on a narrow medical bed. She looked surprised to see both of them there, but she didn’t say anything. The room was quiet; the sound of the machine that was attached to the IV cord that let the medicine pass to administrate it to Yesung’s mom was the only sound in the entire room.

.

.

Then, with trembling lips Yesung asked.

“Mom?”

“I am right here honey” He didn’t wait for Siwon to guide him to his mom.

Stepping forward as he extended his arms until he reached the bed. He continued the trail of the border of the bed until he felt a hand above his. There weren’t words shared, just actions. The raven lifted the hand above his carefully until it met with his lips, trembling lips that kissed a hand that was well known to him.

“Sorry… I am so sorry…” Now there were tears falling, wetting the hand that was now caressing the raven’s face.

There weren’t many words told again, just Yesung apologizing again and again.

.

Siwon felt out of place as he saw the sense in front of him. He didn’t know why Yesung was apologizing but the pain in his heart increased as Yesung started to sob; crying his eyes out as he continued apologizing again and again. Siwon’s gaze was lost in Yesung until he felt someone looking at him. It was Yesung’s mom. Her eyes reflected pain, and he didn’t know if it was because her illness of because her son. But those thoughts got away as she concentrated on her son again.

.

.

.

.

.

“I want you to eat well, okay? And don’t be fussy about your sister’s cooking; you know how much she hates that”

“I know mom, I am not a little boy anymore” Yesung said as he finally showed a little smile that may have hide some worries behind it, but neither Yesung’s mom or Siwon know that

. He was now seated on a chair besides his mother’s bed, never letting go of the hand that had his fingers intertwined with them since a few hours.

“I want you to listen to your sister, don’t do anything to make her mad”

“You know that she even get mad if I am breathing the same air that her. I don’t like her”

“She is your sister and-”

“Okay, I am sorry” Yesung interrupted, and her mom let out a sigh and then an ‘Okay darling’ was heard from her lips.

Siwon thought that maybe this was a conversation they had many times before and so Yesung didn’t want to continue arguing. After some minutes they finally left the hospital room, it was almost time for Tiffany to get out of work and it would be terrible if she found them there, Yesung said.

.

.

The hospital hall was now more crowed and so they had to walk a little bit slower to dodge some people that walked near them. The atmosphere was kind of dense so Siwon started a conversation.

“You mom looks like she is getting better. Maybe she only needs some weeks before they release her from here” He tried to cheer the guy a little even though it could be a lie but Yesung shook his head.

“I don’t think so. She is very sick. I know that”

“Well… Maybe she was but now she is okay”

“You don’t have to lie to me to make me feel better. I may be blind but I am not stupid. She is sick. I don’t know what is happening to her but she isn’t okay”

“But how can you be so sure about that? You didn’t even ask her why she was here”

“Even if I ask her she would never tell me if she is on the edge of dying, that’s how my mom is. She always lies to me so I wouldn’t worry about her but the only thing that she does is the contrary” His voice sounded angry, not towards Siwon, but to himself.

“She had been always like that. Hiding the pain she felt and assuring me that it was something else even though it was clear to me. She had been lying to me since a long time and I had notice it. She sleeps more so she would not wake up with the pain. She doesn’t like to go out of the house anymore because she said that it is to hot outside when I know that she can barely walk anymore because she is always exhausted. And then you tell me that everything is alright when she was trembling the whole time I was holding her hand…” For a moment the crowed hall got empty, and the silence surrounded them again.

Siwon felt bad and wanted to apologies to him but Yesung continued walking, tugging Siwon arm to also make him walk out of the hospital.

On the car the atmosphere was tenser than before and Siwon knew it was his entire fault. He wanted to say something but he also didn’t want to make things worse, so he choose to go with plan B.

“It is already 3 o’clock what do you say if we stop to get something to eat before going home?” Siwon glared at the raven as he continued driving but the other didn’t say anything, and just when he was about to say something Yesung started to laugh.

Siwon was confused for his reaction and he didn’t know if something went off inside his head. Yesung continued laughing until it started to hurt and he had to stop. Holding his stomach with one hand and the other one to covert his mouth, he finally stopped with the laughing.

“It had been only two days since we meet and you already know food is my weakness, but really, you don’t need to make it up for me. I am not mad at you”

“W-What? You were mad at me?” Siwon asked on a playfully tone that made Yesung laugh again.

But he was surprised that Yesung found up about his plan, because he really thought that the raven was mad at him.

“C’mon I want to make it up for you. So you choose were we are going to eat. How does that sounds?” It took him just a second before he shout and clapped his hands in excitement.

“Can we eat pizza, please?”

“Pizza?” He asked, not because he didn’t like the idea but just curious to know why he was so excited for something that common.

“Before my mom got to the hospital we were watching a movie together. Well, she was watching the movie I was just hearing it and the protagonist was describing the pizza they get and since then I can of feel like eating pizza” He said shyly, and Siwon started to wonder if the raven was aware of the pink color that tinted his cheeks just like the other time.

.

.

.

Since Yesung was so excited about eating pizza, Siwon wanted to take him to a place where he would enjoy the best pizza from town. So he drove to a little Italian restaurant. It wasn’t that glamorous like those expensive restaurants in the city but the owners were originally from Italy, and by the expression Yesung made as he got out of the car it looks like it was a good option. The raven couldn’t hide the smile that started to form in his lips, and Siwon was glad that Yesung couldn’t see his face every time he looked at him.

.

.

The restaurant welcomed them with a warm atmosphere that both enjoyed. Fresh cut vegetables, marinade sauce, basil, garlic, butter were only a few things that Yesung could notice as both walked through the restaurant. Finally, when both choose a table near the window Yesung started to wander his hands around the table. Delicate fingers that bumped on salt, pepper, and then a bottle of olive oil and spices.

“What is this?” Yesung asked as he lifted the bottle and tried to figure out what it was.

“Is it ketchup?” It was an innocent answer but Siwon couldn’t stop the little laugh that escaped his lips.

“Ketchup on an Italian restaurant? Are you sure?”

“Hey! The last time I went with my friend to eat pizza they had ketchup!” He defended his statement with a pout. But Siwon was busy trying to decipher what he heard from the raven.

A friend?  Well, of course Yesung must have friends, but he had never mentioned any of them before. He hadn’t mentioned anything besides his mother.

.

.

“This is a traditional Italian restaurant so believe me when I am telling you that it is not ketchup” Yesung continued examining the bottle as Siwon’s curiosity took the better of him.

“Now that you mention it, this is the first time that you have mentioned one of your friends” The question made Yesung straight himself on his sit.

Leaving the bottle on his place as he then cleared his throat.

“Yeah…  I used to have some when I was study back at university”

Used? Does he mean that he doesn’t have any friend now?

Siwon was learning something new about the raven and just when he was about to ask more the waiter came to take their order. After that, Yesung immediately started to take the lead of the conversation, changing it so Siwon wouldn’t ask more about him. But he couldn’t blame the raven for that; maybe he had a reason why he didn’t wanted to talk about that and maybe he will tell him, and he hoped it would be soon.

.

.

They continued the conversation with Siwon explain him what he does for a living, how he had even won some awards for one of his books and how he is now trying to write something. Slices of pizza disappearing as both enjoyed the moment and then after a joke that Siwon made about turtles Yesung started to laugh out loud. He thought he hadn’t seen him laugh that much since the day he came and then, he opened his eyes. For some reason they were connected with his gaze and for a moment Siwon though that Yesung was looking at him directly to his eyes. The silver gray color seemed brighter with little lamp that hung above their table.

He didn’t know if Yesung was conscious that he didn’t usually opened his eyes, but every time he did that, he felt lost in them.

.

.

“Mom, Look! His eyes are different! Why mom? Why his eyes are like that?” A little kid, about 6 years old, that sat with his family on the opposite table of them said a little too loud.

Yesung closed his eyes immediately. The playfully mood changed; making the raven feel uncomfortable in his own sit. ‘I am so sorry, he is just a kid’ was heard after that and Yesung shook his head no and a forced smile started to form on his lips.

Minutes later both decided that it was already getting late so they leave the restaurant. The weather was still cold. The rain drop hitting the windows of the car as they moved with the speed. Siwon was glad the radio was on and they didn’t have to go all the way home in a deathly silent.

He didn’t know why every time he tried to cheer him up something occurred and then all his effort went with the wind. Siwon was lost in his thoughts until Yesung’s voice bring him back to reality.

“You know what? This isn’t the first time that this had occurred” A force laugh came out of his mouth.

“I mean, I must be used by now, but for some reason… I don’t”

“Yesung you don’t have to explain me this if you don’t want to…”

“But I want to, I don’t know why but I feel kind of better because I know it is you I am saying all this”

It was almost midnight and Tiffany haven’t arrived home get. Yesung had gone to bed since a long time ago and so Siwon was the only one still awake at that time.  He had been trying to contact her but for some reason her phone seemed to be off. Some hours passed and then Tiffany finally came back home. Siwon was worried about her so when she finally walked into the main door he was already waiting for her in the living room.

.

.

Throwing her purse and her umbrella in the way she walked directly where Siwon sat.

“Did you think I wouldn’t notice?” She started but Siwon was confused with her question.

“What? Where have you been these entire time? I was worried about you. I even called you and you didn’t answer any of my calls or messages” She didn’t respond.

She was mad, it was visible for Siwon, but he didn’t know why.

.

.

“I know both of you went to visit my mother, so don’t play dumb with me” Siwon knew that Yesung’s mother promised not to tell anything to Tiffany but they didn’t count that one of the nurses told her how glad she was to see more people visiting her mother, and that one of them was Tiffany’s brother.

But he couldn’t understand what the problem about that was; Yesung had the same right that Tiffany to visit their mother, so he didn’t know why she was so mad about that.

“And what if we did that? We are talking about your mother that it happens to be the same one as Yesung, your brother. Now tell me why you are arriving at this hour. Do you know it is past midnight?” Siwon yelled, grabbing her by her arm to get her attention since Tiffany was ignoring him.

She tried to get himself free by pushing Siwon with her other arm. Both continued struggling until Siwon noticed the light aroma of alcohol on his wife. As she notice what Siwon was doing she pushed him harder and finally got free from his grip.

.

.

Siwon was stunned.

“Were you drinking? I mean, do you even drink? What is happening to you? This is not you; this is not like you are” He shook his head as he stepped away from her.

His face showed a feeling of hurt and even betrayal, and she could notice it.
.
.

Some tears started to form at the corner of her eyes as her voice started to broke.

“It is his entire fault. I-I don’t want him to see mom. I-it is his fault that she is sick. He doesn’t deserve to see her, be with her; not even her love” The last words sounded bitter as they left her lips.

This was the opposite of his lovely and caring wife. The person in front of him was someone which heart was full of hate and spite towards another person, and that person was Yesung.

.

.

“Tiffany, you can’t blame someone else for that”

“Of course I can! I hate him for what he did to our own mother!” She yelled as she started to grab everything that was around her and started to throw it anywhere.

The sound of broken glass echoed in the house as well as her sobs became louder.

.

.

“I hate him! I wish he was the one dying instead of her!!!” After that, there was a long pause where only Tiffany erratic breathing was the only thing that was heard in the house.

Until they hear something. Steps that came from the hall made both of them turn his attention to the raven that was slowly walking toward them.

.

.

“M-mom i-is going to d-die…” Yesung said on a broken voice.

He started to walk toward them, bumping with the stuffs Tiffany threw a while ago until he trip over something and he felt on the floor. His hands landed on the broken glass of a decoration that Tiffany threw and soon the floor started to tint with a red color. Siwon ran to his direction and lifted his hands to look at the damage the glass caused, but it looked like the pain didn’t matter to Yesung in that moment.  Siwon mumbled his name on an almost inaudible tone, but it was enough to make Yesung look up, and what he saw almost broke his heart; Silver gray eyes which brightness disappeared as they were consumed by the darkness of room.

It was going to be one of those moments Siwon would never forget in his life…
