Pumpkin Season
Saw chdarling's Tumblr post about Weird Questions for Writers (because writers are weird) the other day. One of the questions got me reminiscing:
"8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?"
So, which one would you pick? (It's without dialogue for me.)
There was a HP fest on Livejournal themed around the idea of fics without dialogue: hp_silencio. It ran from 2013 to 2015. All the fics are posted on LJ, so have a look if you are interested. (I wrote a piece for the fest in 2013.)
Anyway, it's July, and I'm getting ready for pumpkin season. Let's hope I'll have something ready by Hallowe'en.
HP Cottagecore Fest will run from September 4 to October 1. (Defintion of cottagecore from Wikipedia: link)
HP Halloween Fest is open for sign up till September 28. Works due on September 30.
Bite me Delight Me HP Fest (creatures and magical beings) is open for prompting till August 1. Claiming opens from August 2 to October 1.
HP Dead Dove Fest is open for claiming from July 30 to September 23. Works due on September 25.
Black Cest Fest is coming up in October. Prompting begins on October 23. Or check out HP Cest Fest; it's posting right now, and I saw quite a few Blackcest fics.
Kill Your Darlings (main character death) is still open for claiming till August 25. Works due on August 30.
hd_fan_fair is still open for claiming till August. This year's theme is Career Fair (minus any food-related career). Posting begins on October 1. I've noticed that they tend to have a few horror fics/art somewhere in there. Kind of fun when you get a brand new Draco/Harry horror story to read on Hallowe'en.
Waiting to see if hp_halloween (double drabble exchange) and HP Fear Fest will run this year. While I don't write Sirius/Remus, I like R/S Fireside Tales's concept and their prompts.
hp_darkarts (and HP Horror Fest) used to be my go-to place for dark fics, though it's been inactive lately. It's heartening to see that others have stepped in to fill the dark fic/horror/questionable content void in HP fandom.
For more HP fests, check out HP Fest News Round-up on potterfests. There are almost always at least 50+ HP fests currently running on any given day -- there are probably more I don't know about. Not sure what to make of it...
