Happening Now:

theiceroyals (Lucius/Narcissa) is open for claiming till Jan 7.

hp_sweethearts is open for sign up till Jan 9.

eatyourheartoutfest is open for prompting (including self-prompting) till Jan 14. Claiming ends on Feb 13.

hp_goldenage &
ron_draco_fest are open for claiming till Feb 14.

blackcestfest claiming ends on Feb 27. (Haven't looked at the prompts yet.)

bloodykissesfest (Harry/Voldemort|Tom & vampires) is open for prompting till Feb 28. Claiming begins on Mar 1.

These fests are currently posting:
hd-erised | hd_owlpost | hoggywartyxmas | mini_fest |
rarepair_shorts Winter Exchange 2021-22

snowflake_challenge is currently looking for volunteers. The challenge itself will begin in January. (multi-fandom)

hd-fangfest (H/D and vampires) begins prompting on Jan 1. Claiming begins on Feb 1. Fic and podfic sign-ups are limited to 35 spots. (Which means I won't be participating...)

hptransfest begins prompting on Jan 7.

hd-wireless (H/D and music) also begins prompting on Jan 7.

hp_bunintheoven Pregnancy Fest begins prompting on Jan 8.

snapecase posting begins on Jan 9.

sshg_giftfest (Severus/Hermione) begins sign-up on Jan 9.

harrydracompreg (H/D and mpreg) &
hd-anonfest (H/D and no theme unless you want one; overview) will open prompting some time in January.

(An aside: I quite like the idea of H/D Anon. All H/D fests have a theme behind it, and H/D Anon gives you an opportunity to submit something to a fest -- with the benefit of greater exposure for your H/D work -- without being constrained by a fest theme.)

hpshipuary &
kinkuary are coming up in February. They are daily prompt challenges for the month of February.

(Another aside: HP Shipuary might be fun; it reminds me of hp_may_madness.)

hpdrizzle | hp_drizzle will open prompting on April 1.

Waiting to see if there'll be something going on at
hpdarkarts.

Are sign-ups for H/D fests always this popular? (Then again, this year is the first time in some years that I signed up for an H/D fest, so I haven't been keeping up with things.)

H/D Career Fair 2021 capped fic/podfic participants at 100 this year, and every spot was filled. The total number of works submitted to the fest, including fic, art and podfics, was 68. You can see the statistics here.

Several other H/D fests are capping writer/podficcer participants as well (H/D Erised, H/D ClueFest, H/D Sudsfest, H/D FangFest -- don't remember if H/D Big Bang had a cap on number of participants or not), and all the spots get filled up in just a few days. It's... quite a spectacle. The only other pairing that has maybe one or two fests with participant cap is Draco/Hermione.

Another thing I've noticed is that many fests, exchanges, challenges, etc. tend to start in the beginning of the month, particularly the first day of the month, whether it's prompting, sign-up, posting and so on.

(Lately I tried to space things out on Potterfests, as well as having a round-up post on the 4th, 5th or 6th of the month to serve as reminders. No idea how well -- or not -- it's working for people.)

And just another observation. The most popular months for fests are December (Christmas, winter holidays), October (Hallowe'en) and February (Valentine's Day) -- in that order.
