Hindsight is 20/20

From my book:  "In 1519, Cortes received Dona Marina ..., a young multilingual noblewoman, as a gift, after her skills as a translator had been demonstrated to him.  She, along with Jeronimo de Aguilar, a Spanish priest stranded for years among the Maya, could translate for Cortes, so that he could begin to understand the world around him.  No such informed interlocutors interpreted the Spanish world-view for the Aztecs, nor for any of the peoples of Mesoamerica, althugh they quickly found out what the future had in store for them."

Me: "Syphillus!"
