1. What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Admitted to myself that I'm a big old lez, lived in the mountains, spent crazy amounts of money, been a vegetarian and (briefly) a vegan, even though I took saturdays off to eat cheese and pastries!
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
According to last year's survey, I was supposed to be as ridiculous and spontaneous as possible- check. Next year I want to get better grades in school and have less drama.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
nope, but my cousin's girlfriend is knocked up now. what will that make me? a cousin once removed?
4. Did anyone close to you die?
my heterosexual self was brutally crushed.
5. What countries did you visit?
the south is a foreign land! and i lived there.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
a tent!
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
My first date with a woman, after which we ended up making out in this public park where there were some little kids and people playing fetch with their dogs in the distance.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Re-instating and expanding my flannel wardrobe! not having an identity crisis.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Being responsible, not throwing up after drinking, etc. Remaining in touch with people and returning phone calls are definitely up there too.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I sat in a yellow jacket's nest and got at least 15 stings at one time, mostly on the ass. THAT was a little out of hand, let me tell you.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Probably my backpack from REI, or my plane ticket to visit Kat over fall break.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My family's. (that apostrophe looks really odd for some reason)
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Well my Louisiana red-neck boyfriend this summer was a class-A douche, but on the other hand, it was totally my bad for thinking that was a good idea.
14. Where did most of your money go?
iTunes, gasoline, a lot of transportation costs and food
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
working at NOC, visiting/being visited by Kat, seeing my family
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
closer to fine -indigo girls. hahah or not, i'm not that gay - possibly. probably anything from The Organ album.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? I'm enthusiastic about my life! But I was happy then too, so I'm not sure. equal? More self-realized now! ha.
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter
iii. richer or poorer? poorer! ugh.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
whitewater kayaking down south, dating women in the first half of the year, reading lovely books
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
smoking, throwing up alcohol, being a super classy kid, spending money on iTunes for the L word.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Opening presents and eating with the family. I got my dad a plate tectonic boundaries map and I'm really excited for it!!!!
23. How many one-night stands?
I don't want to make anyone jealous of my amazing sex appeal.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
the L word! its obligatory for any freshly hatched dyke.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't think so! I dislike some people that I met, but they are more amusing than anything.
26. What was the best book you read?
I personally loved frankenstein. Oh, and Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller is incredible! I read that and Lolita at work this summer and one of my bosses thought I was some kind of pervert.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I went through an intense Avett Brothers/bluegrass phase, and lately I've really been into Bach. I love this hipster indie band called the Organ too.
28. What did you want and got?
My woman! My job at NOC.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
In theaters I didn't see much, but the Dark Knight was definitely the best of what I saw. Otherwise, I saw Bonnie and Clyde for the first time and that is the best movie ever.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 19, and I was in the middle of a weekend backpacking trip to Oil Creek State Park. It was fucking freezing, but we had a good time and I ate a tremendous amount of cheese. My roommate Anna put up ribbons and confetti all over the room for when I got back to campus.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If Kat lived in Meadville!
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
dyke.
34. What kept you sane?
Playing yahoo pool with Kat, visits to the South, my roommate, soy milk during my vegan phase, backpacking, my brother.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jennifer Beals and Shakira.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Prop 8 and the other anti-gay proposals that all fucking passed.
37. Who did you miss?
My girlfriend, my family.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
My girlfriend! Many lovely people at NOC this summer.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Lesbians really do have more drama. So much estrogen!!
