When a computer hard drive tanks (craters, cashes in, kicks the bucket, dies, prepares itself for the trash heap...), it's a highly disruptive event.
When it happens on your notebook computer while at a business meeting out of town, it's a traumatic event.
When that notebook computer has much of the work you've done over the last few years, it feels somewhat catastrophic.
*sigh*
