I was attempting to contact the spirit Nala so that I might learn healing magic from her. She seems willing enough to teach me, but her method of communicating is somewhat... unusual.

No, she's one of the native spirits that resides here in Luceti. In that sense I suppose she does bear some resemblances to a ghost.
