LOL the trauma of living in a rural community . . .

First off, hello from home, we finally have the interweb. Hooray.

Secondly I went to my parents today and just got home a moment ago. On my way up to the doors of the building I saw a little black and white cat eating something off the ground. Aww, how cute. No not so cute. It was a pole cat, (read as skunk) not even long out of his baby furs. I spoke gently to him and walked around to size up the situation. He was in the dead center front of my stairs, meaning any little startle would cause quite a stink, as it were. I spoke gently to him and he gave me a bit of eye but didn't start the 'hey I'm big and stinky dance', which meant I wasn't a threat, hooray. I remembered mom had given me some food for Puck so I rummaged in my bag and ripped off half a chicken breast and tossed it to him. He started towards it but whatever was on the ground must have been pretty damn good so he didn't budge much. So I took this time to get up to the mailboxes, just as got there someone came out of the building. I said, as loud as I dared, "be careful! skunk!". He looked at it and said "it's ok yah? No stink yet?". His russian accent was charming but made me feel like I was in a bad episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle. I told him no not yet but be careful. He bolted and startled the little guy who started doing his dance (up on the two front legs, tail splayed out, making little grunty noises) which was really silly because all told the thing was about as big as a football. I waited until he had calmed down and went for the chicken to make my break for it. He met my eyes and started to jump around a bit and then decided that the chicken smelled pretty ok and went for that.

Everyone says ew West Haven, that's like ghetto city. I say I look off my porch and see trees. I greet my tubby little groundhog friend and watch him nibble greens. I meet skunks at my door. And all the people I talk to have lovely foreign accents {russian jamaican chinese southern ;)} I really like it here. Execpt for the bit of stray fighting in spanish it's lovely.
