my single biggest fear in AU writing is that if you change too much of the experience for a character, they cease to be recognisable to your audience. But when you say things like this, I can't help but think I did okay =) Thank you!

I loved early BSG Lee in that he had the chops to stand up for things, to face down his old man when he disagreed. Somewhere along the line - Resurrection ship, maybe? - he went from the guy who would take on a whole ship of convicts, yell at his Commander, mutiny, wave off the president and hold grudges to being Mr Won't-Man-Up. I like him anyway, but I think in the AU, I've written him as having a lot fewer doubts of the justice of his viewpoint. Maybe in the show he blamed his old man, but I think he must have felt as trapped by his attitude as he was righteous in it. I think I really liked continuing the idea of him as unshakable in his belief.

Of course, given that Kara's been his biggest reason to shake, I guess it's not surprising he wavered so much in the show.
