Episode Review: BSG, s3.03

Ya know, if I keep these novels up, I'll need to buy another keyboard, and a new set of wrists. But nevertheless, here's my recap & review of Exodus, pt 1, though ( I don't think 'recap' quite describes it. )

You know, I've been pondering all week about the "Adama wouldn't lie to me" out of Sharon's mouth. My BSG season 2.5 episodes are with a friend, so I wasn't able to go back and rewatch the scene when Laura gives the baby to Maya on Colinial One. I remember Laura, Tori, Maya. I don't remember if Adama was there, or any conversation with him about sending Hera off; if he knew about the baby substitution or if it was all on Laura.

I chuckle at the Six/Baltar relationship. She was clearly 'in love' with the total scoundrel he was in the mini, and it took him all of season 1 and part of season 2 to actually fall in love with HER, or at least the idea of her, through his vision and Gina. Now they are together, and it's so not a hearts and flowers relationship. Clearly, love does not solve all and does not guarantee a bright, shiny future. And I think that idea is also going to be evident (<--- totally spoiler free) the more we see of Kara/Sam and Sharon/Helo and hello... Kara/Lee ( ... )

I'd completely forgotten that the first time I watched the Adama farewell scene that I was so overcome with giggles over pudgy!Lee that I didn't actually hear the music. I guess I was so busy typing in the other window the second time around that it didn't quite have the same effect. But yes, fat Lee, honestly and totally, made me LAUGH in the byebye scene, and if I am looking forwards to anything this season it's seeing him in a position where I can take him seriously again. Because you're absolutely right: they haven't sold Fat!Lee very well, just like Lee/Dee: it's there, and we're seeing it, but it doesn't make huge amounts of sense given what we know about the character.

It's annoying when what we're seeing seems to mostly rely on what we don't know yet with regards to core characters; at least what Kara does with regards to the things we don't know about her yet are still consistent with the things we do.

I notice you didn't include Dee/Lee in your list of 'ships where 'love may not conquer all'... can I ask why? =)

LOL you caught that. I don't think Lee really loves her. And I think Kara's comment in LDYB2 about 'frakking Dualla' may have really hit home. Of course, this is my spec, because we certainly haven't seen anything onscreen.

Hopefully we'll get more insight into our pilots' frakked up relationships as we get further into the season.

You're right that we haven't seen much of it to judge by, but I'm inclined to think there's something in it, even if it's not the firey, romantic feelings he obviously held for Kara. Perhaps its the contrast that attracted him: even while he was trying to get closer to Kara - and I say trying because there's not really an appropriate word for his half-hearted, mostly unrealised attempts to get her attention - and being hurt by her remove, he was noticing Dee, and I think it's because she's Kara's polar opposite ( ... )

That's exactly what was in my head, regarding the chasing. Someone is seemingly unattainable, someone else is attainable. Someone has so much baggage and is hard, someone else has thrown her baggage overboard and is easy. Someone pushes you just as hard as she pushes herself, someone else is pulling you closer because she needs you ( ... )
