Fandomishness, necessarily... and fic poll!

Hmmm! Stephen King (does anyone read him anymore?) LOVES Battlestar Galactica. In his "Who Weekly" Column, he calls it "not quite as good as 'Lost' but far better than Star Trek in any of its incarnations (Sorry, Trekkies, but you know I speak the truth). This is a beautifully written show, driven by character rather than effects... but the effects are damned good. And there's not a better acting troupe at work on television." His other favorites are Lost and Sopranos, and he rather enjoyed 24 but it seems that his fannishness is waning in that respect. That's pretty reasonable company for a little cable show based on a cheesy Star Wars ripoff. And while I'm not a huge fan of most of King's work, I found "Green Mile" to be a really enjoyable and beautifully written book. Still, as we share little in common where it comes to our literary tastes, Mr. King and I apparently agree quite thoroughly on BSG.

I am endeavouring to remain unspoiled for BSG s3. We'll see how long that lasts... but so far all I know is that Kara cuts her hair short and Anders isn't dead yet (pity) and neither's Ellen (I should be sad, but she's so amazingly bad I actually like her) and Lee doesn't join weight-watchers for a few more episodes. These things aren't all that enlightening as spoilers go, but seeing I have not yet watched either LDYB or LDYB2, merely read transcripts, I'm trying not to delve too deeply into what's coming until I've seen what's been.

But seeing nothing I have yet discovered reveals to me in the slightest why half the cast got personality makeovers in the final half-dozen eps, I'm starting to wonder if this isn't going to turn out like the last Potter book to this lonely fan. I didn't recognise half the characters in Half Blood Prince, or wouldn't have if they hadn't been addressed by rather familiar names, and while the BSG thing is not that extreme just yet, it's going that way. They better be forthcoming with some missing-year details, boys and girls... and the revelations better explain things, or I'm going to park my fannishness in one of those rarely-opened folders on my rarely-used other HDD, and start living in the lovely realm of AU'ishness forever.
