Learning for the sake of learning is celebrated after all!

Today, I went to the initiation ceremony for newly registered Phi Beta Kappa members (of which I was invited to and did register for), and now I am an official member :). Supposedly one of the most prestigious honor societies in the nation, and it made me really happy to hear from the speakers that Phi Beta Kappa supports and celebrates the aspiration to learn not just for a profit. This really brightened my day namely because of one day in Nature and Literature class where the teacher brought up the sobering fact that many students come to college to find a higher-paying job. I left that class almost in tears, after I had realized "That isn't why I came to college - I came to college to learn." If I had wanted an education to get a more stable job, I would have gone to a vocational school to learn something practical, not art and zoology.
However, the speeches at the ceremony made me realize that broad education and love of learning is celebrated after all, and is still competitive in the job market with the skills learned from a liberal arts degree (if you take the right classes of course). Happy day indeed!

Also, another potentially high note - I decided to start taking some B-12 supplements, and I think they might be the ticket that I needed to combat my fatigue in the afternoon. I had only had one yesterday at lunch, and that afternoon/evening I didn't feel like falling asleep as soon as I had sat down. There is hope!! However, I've been told by my doctor to get off of my BC for a month to see if that has any impact on my migraines, so I'm feeling that I shouldn't bring in too many variables (the B-12 may help prevent my migraines, which could be confused with the lack of BC) and not take the B-12 until after this month of no BC is done with. Hope...but not for another month. Mneh. XP I've lived with it for years now, though, so I can deal with it for a little longer. And apologies if medical stuff is TMI for those reading - if it is, please let me know and I will turn it to friends-only or behind a cut.

At 5pm tonight I get to go paint tern decoys with the Wildlife Society!!! Yippee!! XD! *hops away excited* Have a good night, everyone!

school, health, migraine
