Well, it turns out that I did get something after all at the student art exhibition - an award for $800 to put towards either my University bill or towards supplies! That is an honor indeed! o@
A great friend of mine, Renee, also attended and got a crapload of awards, deserving every single one of them!!! She got Best in Show for a comic she submitted illustrating her trials and tribulations working as a young comic artist with rheumatoid arthritis as well as having manga and anime-style artwork be taken seriously (they did by selecting her artwork to be shown and chosen for Best In Show, thank goodness!), as well as a monetary award for figure drawing, and an award to have her artwork displayed in the library in a solo exhibition. She deserves all of this and more!!! She is an amazing person, and her spirit and determination is something to learn from for sure.
Her family was there, her parents and sister, and they treated me to dinner at Governor's, a local Maine-type restaurant. Man, it was a lot of fun - her parents are witty, knowledgeable, and fun, and the way Renee and her sister act seems a lot like the way me and my three older sisters act together when we are at a restaurant and getting silly. XP Renee's dad seemed awfully excited that I was a Zoology minor, being in forestry himself and being somewhat of a naturalist, and her mother was happily putting in clever quips (Renee later told me that her mother really liked me as well, and that her sister thought I was hilarious - chiming in to sing along when her and Renee began to sing the Manamana song may have helped I suppose - how can you not sing along? XD). All told, much fun was had, though I think I got too excited, as I began to feel my head start to hurt afterward - took some Excedrin preemptively, though, and feel much better already. Here's to continued good luck!
