I really hate construction work. Before moving to Dresden, I was fairly neutral on the subject. Stuff has to get fixed up and built somehow, ya know?
But now...now I fucking really hate construction and I live in the middle of a god-forsaken construction site. Looking at the bright side, it's kind of impressive to see how much is different in my 'hood, compared to how it was when I first moved in.
Prager Strasse was a dump when I first got here and now it's all like the place to be on a Saturday afternoon when the sun is out (even though that link is not from the summer obviously). The
Glaskugelhaus is also done and the powers that be are finally getting around to renovating the crap shack that is Reitbahnstrasse 36 (aka where my crib be at).
Still, my number one source for annoying construction work remains the main train station in Dresden. Yes, there have been a few strides of progress (I suppose) but very few of them are visible right now. In fact, the construction seems to be spreading out beyond the walls of the train station. They've closed off the main entrance and put up a fence that extends roughly to the tram stop in front of the station.
And here's a drawing of what it roughly looks like at the moment
I'm mostly annoyed by the fact that those dudes love to turn on their jackhammers at the crack of 7am. That is not the sound you want jolting you out of a peaceful slumber.
Good God, I hate construction and that train station had better not look like shit when they're done.
